Benoit Saint-Denis

No-shows main event defeat
LightweightUFC
September 28, 2024
Saint-Denis lost to Renato Moicano via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.
ANALYSIS
It was the first time in Saint-Denis' brief UFC run that he appeared totally overmatched. He was thrown to the mat by Moicano moments after the opening bell rang and spent the entirety of Round 1 being beaten to a bloody pulp. He managed to get back to his feet, regroup, and may have very well stole Round 2, but the doctor stopped the fight after the frame because Benoit couldn't see out his right eye. Saint-Denis was never going to quit and the crowd was visibly upset with the decision, but one look at Benoit's face tells you it was the correct decision. BSD has now lost back-to-back fights in the span of less than seven months. To say his margin for error in a loaded lightweight division has evaporated is a massive understatement.

Taking on Moicano in Paris
LightweightUFC
June 28, 2024
Saint-Denis is slated to take on Renato Moicano at UFC Paris on September 28, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The "God of War" will now get his first fight since March, where he broke a winning streak of five due to a knockout at the hands of Dustin Poirier. Saint-Denis will take on fellow lightweight in Moicano, who hasn't yet lost in 2024 and is coming off a victory via TKO over Jalin Turner.
Winning streak snapped at five
LightweightUFC
March 9, 2024
Saint-Denis lost to Dustin Poirier via KO (punches) at 2:32 of Round 2 at UFC 299 on Saturday in Miami.
ANALYSIS
Having swelled to a -220 favorite by the time the fight went off, Saint-Denis put forth another excellent effort and was the better man most of this bout. Fighting at his usual break-neck pace, BSD was constantly pressuring Poirier, landing three takedowns and racking up 4:53 worth of control time in the brief fight. He had Poirier's back early in Round 2 and appeared to be in position to earn the stoppage, but Dustin worked his way back to his feet and eventually landed a couple massive blows which put Saint-Denis away. He may have lost here, but BSD is legit. He's going to continue to make life miserable for his opposition with the belief that they will break before he will, and in most instances, it will be true. It just didn't work out that way tonight. On the bright side, he'll earn a $50,000 bonus after this back-and-forth affair was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Poirier fight scheduled
LightweightUFC
February 1, 2024
Saint-Denis is scheduled to compete against Dustin Poirier at UFC 299, per Nolan King of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
According to Poirier, he could not get a hold of his manager for a few days, which resulted in a miscommunication that ultimately led the top-five lightweight to believe he was not competing against Saint-Denis. Apparently, that is not the case after all, giving Saint-Denis a coveted opportunity to leapfrog much of his competition in the UFC's lightweight rankings.
Poirier fight not scheduled
LightweightUFC
February 1, 2024
Saint-Denis is not fighting Dustin Poirier at UFC 299, according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
According to Poirier, he and Saint-Denis never logged a contractual agreement for the fight despite UFC CEO Dana White's announcement for said bout. It seemed they were negotiating for a bout, which ultimately fell apart as all parties involved reportedly failed to come to terms. So for now, Saint-Denis will not get an immediate shot to boost himself up to the upper echelon of the UFC's lightweight rankings.
Announced as UFC 299 co-main
LightweightUFC
January 8, 2024
Saint-Denis will take on Dustin Poirier in a lightweight matchup in the co-main event of UFC 299 on March 9 in Miami, UFC president Dana White announced Sunday via social media.
ANALYSIS
Saint-Denis and Poirier will get together in a rare, five-round, non-title fight, as both men apparently requested the terms of the matchup as part of negotiations. Few fighters on the UFC roster have been as hot as Saint-Denis, who has registered five consecutive victories, all stoppages within two rounds. That stretch also earned him three post-fight bonuses. Both men are high-volume and accurate strikers, with Saint-Denis holding slightly better offensive marks, in addition to a pretty big edge in offensive wrestling. It's a massive opportunity for Saint-Denis, as he'll be fighting a huge name on the co-main event of a high-profile pay-per-view, and a victory could catapult him as high as a top-5 spot in the rankings.
